Weird hobbies that will make your MBA application better
While wine tasting might not seem like an appropriate hobby to mention on your MBA application, interviewers actually look for unusual interests that show your multi-diversity and your potential to socialize. Besides, they work as a good conversation starter in the interviews.
This doesn’t mean that you fill your application with some made-up hobbies just to make it stand out. Trust us, the interviewers have been sitting on the panel from years and have industry experience too. They have the ways to extract if the information you provided on your resume authentic or not.
We have created a list of hobbies that can add character to your application and you should definitely mention them (only if you really pursue them).
1.Extreme Adventure Sports:
If you are always up for activities like skydiving, hiking, and ultra marathons, then you must mention it all. These hobbies indicate that you are a strategic risk taker, disciplined, happy person who is comfortable with pushing boundaries and facing the unknown. Besides, they can leverage your interests for those inter B-School decathlons.
Playing games in your free time while sitting on the couch is certainly not going to get you anywhere, but if it is your passion and you are good at it, then now is the time to take benefit of this hobby. Perhaps you can start your own club in the B-School or even start a volunteering community that would help get second-hand gaming consoles for kids.
3.Social Media Interests:
If you know how to use technology besides just connecting with your far off relatives and friends or watch memes, then you can definitely offer the benefits of it to the B-School you are applying for. Perhaps you can use it for a social cause campaign or maybe you can spread awareness about your projects and internships.
Having an interest in board games, such as chess and monopoly implies that you are comfortable in facing high-competitive situations while keeping your calm. You can probably use these strengths and skills in organizing tournaments that would offer a platform for other students also and strengthen the PR of the B-School.
