Your Ultimate Guide to Mastering SAT Vocabulary

Tips for acing SAT vocabulary

If you have been preparing for SAT, you know that the test pattern has changed now; the current pattern focuses on understanding the more commonly used words in context rather than knowing the meaning of complex words. So the question arises how to prepare for SAT?

Below written are the tips for acing the SAT writing and language and reading tests.

Unlike before, now the vocabulary is tested differently on both the reading and writing language tests.

Reading: In this section, you will have to —
1.Determine the meaning of a word or phrase in the context of a passage.
2.Interpret rhetorical devices and how they affect the overall meaning of a passage.

Writing and language: For this, try the following—
1.Choosing words that can make more meaningful sentence or are better suited to convey the idea.
2.Paying attention to the syntax of a passage.

Since the SAT is a more context based test now, memorizing long lists of words will not prove to be a very fruitful strategy. You should instead try practicing the types of questions that you’ll find on the test. For instance:

1.Read:-
The best way to learn and practice vocabulary in context is by reading. Reading everything and anything would help, but your prime focus should be on the kind of passages that you will get on the SAT, for instance, complex articles on history, literature and science.

Don’t just read, but make it a habit to think about synonyms while reading, looking up words you don’t understand and learn their meanings.

2.Take practice tests:-
Most of the students undermine the value of practice tests, but these tests will help lay a strong foundation for you. Keep taking practice tests to gauge your progress, making sure you prepare and study in between. With every practice test, you will learn and improve.

3.Use apps and online tools:-
There are a number of tools and apps available that can help you improve your vocabulary for SAT in a fun way. In other words, with these apps and tools, you don’t have to put in a lot of efforts to learn words and their context.

4.Take guidance from education consultants:-
