Latest Update on Indian Students’ UK Post-Study Work Visa

Though every sector and all the groups of people have been highly affected by the COVID-19 and lockdowns that followed worldwide, the most adversely impacted group by the breakout of this deadly virus is the students who had been waiting to move abroad for higher studies. Many Indian students had been planning to go to UK, USA, Australia, and Canada and many of them even had their visa approved for the 2020-2021 academic year.

However, now that their plans have been affected by the lockdown and restrictions of international moments, it had been a grave point of concern of students as they fear to lose their admissions.

Responding to the same, many countries have introduced the option for international students to start studying from their home country through online classes. Though this came as a relief, the apprehension that followed was that they would lose the Graduate Visa which allows them to stay in the country of study for a few years after the completion of their degree to work or search for work.

The UK government recently issued guidance to assure all the international students, including Indian students, that their Graduate Visa will remain valid even if they start their 2020-2021 term from their home countries due to the current situations if they can enter the premises of UK by April 2021 and complete their final semester in the university.

The Graduate route in the UK allows the students to stay in the country for 2 years to either work or look for work. This news comes as a huge relief for the students as they will now be able to start their studies at the selected universities abroad without having to worry about their future.
